High quality educational and training programs that meet standards/plan/ and perform in accordance with standards/plan/ are necessary and the cornerstone of teaching learning process.

Increased public expectation for quality and ethical health care is necessitating changes in what and how health professionals are taught. The increasing need to train more health workers presents a serious challenge to the quality of education of health professionals Despite these challenges, education Institutions train health care providers which have not well-functioning quality systems based on standards that have been cascaded to the department level.

Standards are desirable practices in educating health professionals that incorporate well-recognized and accepted principles of learning and institutional conditions for educational activities and are based on scientific evidence, best practice, expert opinion and judgment and national policies, strategies, guidelines and legislation; there are nine areas and 30 sub-areas of operational standards of Health Science Colleges described as follows

2. Governance, Leadership and Administration

  • Governance of the program
  • Administrative staff and management

3. Educational and Training Resources

  • Training halls/classroom
  • Skills development center/laboratory /demonstration room
  • Clinical training facilities/practice sites/cooperative training
  • Information technology facilities
  • Library
  • Trainee amenities
  • Financial resources

4. Trainers and Support Staff

  • Institutional trainer
  • Clinical trainer (clinical instructor/preceptor)

5. Trainee Enrollment and Support Services

  • Trainee enrollment
  • Trainee support systems
  • Trainee representation

6. Program Curriculum and Teaching, Training and Learning Materials/TTLM/

  • Program curriculum design and development
  • Teaching-Training and Learning Materials/TTLM/

7. Outcome-Based Training/OBT/

Therefore there is a need for using and implementing these operational standards through appropriate plan for teaching.

Vision: – To see EDC as one of the excellence unit among the Health 

                     Science colleges

Mission: – To facilitate the teaching learning process through identifying 

                       Gaps, capacity building, taking counter measures & monitoring,

                       as per the Internal Quality Assurance/IQA/ guideline
