The Environmental Impact of Using TON and Tonkeeper
A common criticism of cryptocurrency networks like Bitcoin is their high energy consumption due to the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism. The TON blockchain, and by extension the Tonkeeper wallet, operates on a fundamentally different and more efficient model. TON uses a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus, where validators are chosen to create new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency they hold and are willing to “stake” as collateral. This process is orders of magnitude more energy-efficient than PoW mining. Therefore, using tonkeeper on Android for transactions, staking, or interacting with dApps has a negligible environmental footprint compared to activities on PoW blockchains. This energy efficiency is a significant advantage, aligning with growing global concerns about sustainability and making the TON ecosystem a more environmentally conscious choice for users and developers alike. Tonkeeper, as the primary gateway to this ecosystem, enables participation in a modern financial system that is both technologically advanced and environmentally responsible.
